We have been learning quite a bit about pumpkins last week and this week.
We created a readers theater for five little pumpkins. Each "pumpkin" had a chance to act out their part.
We compared the parts of a pumpkin to the parts of an apple. We noticed how there were similarities within each life cycle and we noticed differences too (flower colors, apples grow on trees and pumpkins grow on vines).
We created a life cycle hat just like we did with our apple unit. We loved noticing the similarities and differences as we created these hats.
We estimated (gave our best guess) for the number of ribs (aka lines) on the pumpkin. We had two friends get the closest. They guessed 18 and we had 23 lines.
We estimated the weight of our pumpkin. It weighed three pounds. We had two volunteers help us weigh the pumpkin.
We experimented to see if our pumpkin would sink or float. We had a volunteer drop the pumpkin in water. I love her facial expression when she sees that it floats.
We measured how tall our pumpkin is. It was 11 cubes tall. Just like scientist we recorded all of our findings.
We estimated the number of seeds within our pumpkin and described what the inside would feel like. We carved the pumpkin....I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE their facial expressions!!!!!!!!!!!!!
These faces are priceless!!!
