We are beginning to work on number sense. This week we have been focusing on numbers 6-10 on the tens frame. We notice a pattern when creating these numbers on our tens frame. 6 is five and one more, 7 is five and two more, 8 is five and three more, 9 is five and four more, 10 is five and five more. This is helping us understand ADDITION. We have talked about what an addition symbol means and we can identify it. We have talked about what an equals sign means and we can identify it. Here are some pictures of our math centers that allow students to apply skills taught during lessons. Our theme for the next two weeks is apples. We have been learning more about how plants grow, parts of a plant or tree, what happens to trees throughout the year (seasons), life cycles, what plants and trees need to grow and survive, and we are going to be doing some fun experiments with apples this Friday. Pictures to follow. Wow, what an exciting and memorable day. We had a pep rally to show our school spirit......BUT..... This was not just any pep rally. NO WAY. THE CAROLINA PANTHERS were at our pep rally. Lined up and ready for our big surprise pep rally. We found a clue...it gave us a hint about WHO our special guest were! The Panthers DJ got us pumped up! Mrs. Burt and Ms. Massey had to stop and take a selfie. We got really excited about all the dancing and cheering! Then the cheerleader showed up. Then the Harris Teeter Dragon showed up....but that's not all Sirrrrrrrrrr PURRRRRRrRRrrrrrrrr came...now we are REALLY pumped.... But that is not all.... Next, came our principal, Mrs. Gritz, in her fun Panthers oufit to be the judge for our character jeopardy..... But that is not all..... Next, came Panther's kicker, number 9, Graham Gano.... But that is not all.... Next, came Carolina Panthers Linebacker, number 58, Thomas Davis ....and just when you think the excitement is going to end....it keeps going :)... Next..... We played character jeopardy WITH the players We had a teacher and student dance off We had a teacher and student obstacle course race (our student's dad is on the left) Our teachers had a race to dress in THE football uniforms... That is our very own Sugar Creek teachers in number 12 and number 17 uniforms. Then the school gets awarded $2,500 grant And then Sir Purr makes us laugh at the very end of the pep rally....... It was truly AMAZING. I am sure it will be imprinted in some young minds for years to come and we will surely have some new Panthers fans if they are not already! We are learning about punctuation. We learned the names of punctuation marks ( period, exclamation mark, and question mark). We spotted some punctuation during our reading time. We also spotted some sight words. We are super stamina readers! We have focused fun while learning in the morning. We practice applying skills used from the previous day! We had lots of fun reading Harold and the Purple Crayon and learning how to spell purple on purple day! What a sunny day we had in kindergarten learning about yellow! We read The Sunflower House by Eve Bunting. We learned about the life cycle of a Sunflower and talked about connections we had to the story. We are exploring our learning centers! They are having so much fun making new friends and getting used to the classroom! We are going to have so much fun our first week of kindergarten! Classroom is ready for some sweet kinders!
