Mrs. Burt burned the seeds and Charlie thought that really stunk ( literally and figuratively). We counted how many seeds came out of our pumpkin.

We are ready for a fun day! We love all the wonderful family support! We were worn out after such a fun and exciting day! Sammy the Shark showed up to pump us up. Mrs Burt and Ms. Massey got a picture with there spectacular light up Shark hats and Sammy Me. Lewis modeling one of the prizes... A school spirit Mohawk! The teachers and students raced to get a extra recessor a jeans pass for teachers. The teachers won! However, the students had a chance to redeem themselves and unscramble the website for extra recess and WON We had some friends that were really showing off there dancing moves :) Sammy high fived us as we left! We had our mid-writing workshop celebration where we shared our best piece of writing with our peers. As you can see we really enjoyed reading our fantastic writing to each other. Our goal was to create writing that was easy to read by including finger spaces between words, recording more sounds that we hear, including punctuation, and details within our pictures. We have been using some cool tools to help track our print. These flash lights have really helped us track and find sight words within our books. We have been learning quite a bit about pumpkins last week and this week. We created a readers theater for five little pumpkins. Each "pumpkin" had a chance to act out their part. We compared the parts of a pumpkin to the parts of an apple. We noticed how there were similarities within each life cycle and we noticed differences too (flower colors, apples grow on trees and pumpkins grow on vines). We created a life cycle hat just like we did with our apple unit. We loved noticing the similarities and differences as we created these hats. We estimated (gave our best guess) for the number of ribs (aka lines) on the pumpkin. We had two friends get the closest. They guessed 18 and we had 23 lines. We estimated the weight of our pumpkin. It weighed three pounds. We had two volunteers help us weigh the pumpkin. We experimented to see if our pumpkin would sink or float. We had a volunteer drop the pumpkin in water. I love her facial expression when she sees that it floats. We measured how tall our pumpkin is. It was 11 cubes tall. Just like scientist we recorded all of our findings. We estimated the number of seeds within our pumpkin and described what the inside would feel like. We carved the pumpkin....I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE their facial expressions!!!!!!!!!!!!! These faces are priceless!!! We showed a lot of pink spirit for Breast Cancer Awareness Day. Mrs. Burt and Ms. Massey were replaced by "Pinktastic" and "Pinkalicious" for the day. As a culminating activity to our apple unit we made apple sauce and apple pie. We cooked the apple sauce in the crock pot and really got our senses going with the smell of cinnamon in our room. We also sampled apple butter and apple cider along with our pie and apple sauce. When we were finished we voted on which type of apple product was our favorite. We also had Breast Cancer Awareness Day, hence, the reason we are decked out in pink. We are learning to compare numbers. We have been learning through alligator Allie. She likes to eat what is greater and turns her back to smaller numbers. We played lots of fun center games and we even got to WRITE on the tables. |
